Writing at Wintergreen
Edited by Helen Humphreys
Helen Humphreys is the author of four books of poetry, six novels, and one work of creative non-fiction. Her writing has garnered numerous prizes. One of her recent novels is The Reinvention of Love. Helen was born in Kingston-on-Thames, England, and now lives in Kingston, Ontario with her dog, Charlotte.
In addition to her place as one of Canada’s beloved writers, Helen Humphreys is also an extraordinary teacher. For three summers Helen taught writing at Wintergreen Studios, the off-grid educational retreat centre in the heart of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere reserve. The reserve is one of a global network of UNESCO designated reserves—natural regions with unique geographic features, populated with people committed to sustainable community development. The collected works contained in this volume were produced by the students who worked with Helen over those three summer sessions, as they observed and interacted with the land that is part of the ancient granite spine of North America.
