Land Art BioBlitz
It’s our annual signature event. Connect with our earth, our home.
We call it the Land Art BioBlitz because art + nature are natural companions. We learn to appreciate the natural world through artistic explorations, and in turn, these explorations can inspire new art forms. And so, the activities each year—in person and virtual—are a combination of offerings that include workshops and individual discoveries through the arts and by exploring the natural world.
Celebrate the beauty and diversity of the natural world through a number of guided activities:
discover the natural world with outdoor activities
awaken your creativity with land art activities
log species observations using iNaturalist
engage with Indigenous land-based learning
explore curated classrooms which contain curriculum activities for educators
savour the taste of foraged plants by following the Wild Edibles video series
revisit past Land Art BioBlitz live stream sessions

Species Observations: Identification Using iNaturalist
We use iNaturalist to catalogue all of the species that are identified in the area. To open a free account and join the growing community of backyard biologists, visit iNaturalist.ca.
To learn how to make an observation with your mobile device, watch the video tutorial below created by the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
Winter Wildlife Tracks and Traces
In 2023 we launched a new component to the Land Art BioBlitz, inviting attendees to explore life through the tracks and traces found in the winter months. A year later, we collaborated with the Canadian Wildlife Federation to host a webinar on this very topic! Hilbert Buist, one of Wintergreen’s guides, led the webinar, which was attended by over 700 people from across Canada. You can download the presentation slides here.
Indigenous Land-Based Learning
One of the richest resources for elementary students and their teachers is the Indigenous Land-Based Learning guide, available through the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO).
