Empowering Nepal through music and creativity.

Salil Subedi is a Nepali musician and multidisciplinary artist whose creative expression, philosophy, and engagement in community development and education all revolve around playing the didgeridoo.

Heavens & Earth: The Nepal Telescope Project

Salil is on a 2-month fundraising tour across Canada for his latest educational project, ‘Heavens and Earth - The Nepal Telescope Project.’ This project aims to bring artists and scientists to communities around Nepal, and beyond, for star-gazing, story-telling, collecting indigenous knowledge, and teaching science. Envisioned by a collective of artists, scientists, and elders, together they will lead explorations of the wonders of the universe, nature, science, and the global condition.

About the Artist

SALIL SUBEDI is a Nepali musician and multidisciplinary artist. Salil Subedi is a performance artist, a singer, a musician, a therapist, an advocate of nature and art, but is perhaps best known as Nepal’s best didgeridoo player.

Celebrated across Nepal for his community development and education work, Salil’s practice is steeped in creative expression, philosophy, story-telling and collective empowerment - all revolving around the didgeridoo. He was inspired to work with the Australian aboriginal wind instrument 18 years ago when he discovered how the deep uncanny sounds echo in the Himalayan landscape. Since then, Salil has used music and art to express the mystery and beauty of life, to educate about conservation, to advocate for the bond between nature and art, and to develop skills among children, youth, and adults, especially in rural communities. Also an expert on traditional Nepali singing bowls and Eastern spirituality, Salil reaches something at the core of each member of his audience, whether performing in Nepal or internationally.
