Lyrically Driven. Soulfully Sung. Wholehearted Indie Folk.
Come share a laugh, a story, and a song with frontman George Woodhouse and frontwoman Joss MacNeil, known as The Public Service Duo. Dartmouth-based indie-folkers, The Public Service have had a big year, bringing their uplifting act to the main stages of The IIHF World Juniors, Full Circle Festival, and Stan Rogers Folk Festival, to name a few. Their debut album, Songs For The Living (2022) is a collection of love letters disguised as folk songs for the people and places left behind. Songs For The Living reached no. 1 on multiple community radio stations across Canada. Their infectious stage presence and inviting choruses make it hard not to join in song. The Public Service was founded on the belief that sharing your gifts with the world is a public service.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Public servant by day, singer-songwriter by night, GEORGE WOODHOUSE sings the song in his heart on a bridge between worlds. In 2019 he challenged himself to write “a-song-a-week” for one year, a creative journey that pushed him into an affirming new chapter as an artist, inspiring him to strike up a band which he called The Public Service. They were only ever meant to play one show. Four years later, George Woodhouse and the Public Service have brought their indie-folk act to Nova Scotia’s most treasured stages, and in 2022, released their debut full-length album, Songs For The Living. George served as a co-host and comedian with The Big Sing, a bi-weekly event that invites strangers to sing in three-part-harmony in a Halifax bar. He most recently became a father which has deepened the well of inspiration for art and for life, keeping his cup of joy in flux between spilled-on-the-rug and overflowing.
