Spring Open House

  • Wintergreen Studios 90 Wintergreen Lane South Frontenac, ON Canada (map)
We have forgotten how to be good guests, how to walk lightly on the earth as its other creatures do.
— Barbara Ward

Drop in to Wintergreen Studios to learn about our land, our buildings, and our programs and retreats.

Hobbit House with cordwood & living roof

The Spring Open House is simply that: a chance to explore Wintergreen, chat with staff, and learn about our facilities and operations.

Take a self-guided hike down one of our dozen trails, with a trail map in hand, and see if you can spot some of the early signs of spring.

Learn about how solar power is used at Wintergreen for the main lodge and the Forest House, Phoenix House, and Salamander Sleeper cabins. We will show you how we make use of reclaimed materials in our structures, giving each built element at Wintergreen a unique “feel” while at the same time using resources as sustainably as we are able.

Learn about straw bale and cordwood construction as you explore the cabins and the straw bale lodge. Learn about how to create a living roof, another signature feature of many of Wintergreen’s buildings.

And we will be happy to tell you more about Wintergreen’s programs, including workshops, courses, weddings, and private and group retreats.

WHO WILL I MEET?

RENA UPITIS, President of Wintergreen Studios and the mastermind behind the buildings at Wintergreen, will be on hand to give tours and answer questions about construction. MONICA CAPOVILLA, Executive Director, will also be available, ready to answer questions about how Wintergreen operates as a facility. And LUKE HOWIE, Program Director, will be happy to talk with you about Wintergreen’s programs.

REGISTRATION

This community event is FREE and open to all. We encourage you to pre-register, but you should also feel free to drop by at the last minute!

If your visit falls over the lunch hour, please BYOBL (bring your own boomerang lunch). What’s a boomerang lunch, you ask? It’s where everything you bring goes back with you (in your belly or in your pack), leaving nothing behind.
