Full Moon Festival

  • Wintergreen Studios 90 Wintergreen Lane South Frontenac, ON Canada (map)

The full moon in June, known as the Strawberry Moon in many Indigenous cultures, occurs this year on the Summer Solstice. This bit of synchronicity seems just the right occasion for an outdoor festival to celebrate the summer, the natural world, music, and friendship. While our festival is one day after the June Full Moon, we expect it will still be bright in the sky!

Enjoy an afternoon and evening of spirited live music, be nourished by a light summer meal, and take in the company of other music lovers enjoying the musicians’ stories and songs. End the evening by dancing to the light of the moon!

The Full Moon Festival honours the quiet grace and beauty of the land we walk and acknowledges the Indigenous peoples who nurtured this place before us, and also those who will continue to do so after we are gone.

MUSICIANS

Pete Moss is an acclaimed children's musician who connects people of all ages with the natural world. Drawing inspiration from everyday birds, plants and weather, Pete’s playful, folksy style and sophisticated songwriting has been featured on CBC's Here and NowOwl Magazine and City TV. Pete’s songs inspire empathy, wonder and affection toward living things.

Gisèle Dalbec Szczesniak, Eileen Beaudette, and Clare Mak, better known as Triola, is a string trio of highly skilled professional musicians. They are known for their beautiful arrangements of popular and classical music. In addition to their outstanding musicianship, the members of Triola tell wonderful stories. You’ll be awed by their music and entertained by their anecdotes about music across the ages.

Lynn Miles is an award winning singer-songwriter, record producer, teacher, writer, public speaker.

She’s also pretty funny; a 3-minute standup routine is at the top of her bucket list. Lynn has 15 albums to her credit. She won a Juno award in 2003 for Roots Traditional Album of the year, and went on to be nominated again in 2006 and 2011. She is the recipient of six Canadian Folk Music Awards. Her most recent awards were given to her duo THE LYNNeS for songwriters of the year, and ensemble of the year at the 2018 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Lynn estimates she’s written about 900 songs, although she’s never done an official count.

She has produced 5 albums for other artists including two critically acclaimed albums by her duo partner Lynne Hanson.

Jamie Campbell first achieved musical fame as a member of acclaimed Québecois performer Roch Voisine’s touring band. Most recently, he has been playing the co-lead with Anna Sudac and Doug Reansbury in a sensational tribute to the music of Carole King and James Taylor called You’ve Got a Friend. Voiceplay, guitarwork and a love of all things acoustic characterize the songs that he writes and performs.

Accordionist Jan LeClair joins with Québec musician Alison Gowan on vielle à roue or hurdy gurdy as Chanter la Pomme. Together they perform traditional and neo trad Balfolk music. Originating as dance music from central France in the 1700s, Balfolk is enjoyed across the globe in folk dance circles. Chanter la Pomme performs jigs, scottishes, rondos, mazurkas, waltzes and then some, while combining vocals that are hail and hearty or breathy and beautiful.

Chanter la Pomme will close the Full Moon Festival for 2024. You will be invited to dance, and with a few simple instructions, prepare to be swept into the lively fray of other times and other worlds.
