Open Trails

Enjoy a self-guided hike on Wintergreen Studios’ trails from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the third Wednesday of each month.

Hiking is not escapism; it’s realism. The people who choose to spend time outdoors are not running away from anything; we are returning to where we belong.
— Jennifer Pharr Davis, American long distance hiker

Open Trails is FREE and open to all. Should you like, a charitable donation can be made to help support trail maintenance and events at Wintergreen. All donations will receive a tax receipt.

Printed trail maps and hiking polls will be available on the Lodge porch. There is an outhouse in the Camping Meadow for guest use.

Bring anything you deem necessary to spend some time out on the land, which may include hiking shoes/boots, layered clothing, hat, insect repellent, water, and snacks.

Remember that some of the trails pass by cabins that may be occupied. Please be respectful both to other guests and to the land and its inhabitants.

Note: Staff and/or volunteers will not be on site unless by chance. Hiking the trails is self-guided and at your own risk.

Registration is recommended but not mandatory. We’ll send out a reminder email a few days prior.

Wintergreen is in the heart of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve. You’ll encounter wetlands, mixed forests, granite outcrops, and a glacier-carved lake. There is a stream in a deep valley, and spectacular views from the highest points on the land. Explore the tamarack bog where the trees are over 300 years old. These ecosystems are home to a vast variety of flora and fauna, including many threatened and endangered species.
